GDS Smart and Innovative Cloud Computing Data Center Selected Among "2022 National Green Data Centers"

Date:Apr 26,2023

Previously, GDS Smart and Innovative Cloud Computing Data Center was selected among the "2022 National Green Data Centers", announced by Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Commerce, National Government Offices Administration, China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission, and National Energy Administration.

GDS Smart and Innovative Cloud Computing Data Center

The GDS Smart and Innovative Cloud Computing Data Center is located at Langfang of Hebei Province and was launched in March 2021. The data center specializes in serving high-performance internet enterprises. Since its operation, GDS fully aligns with the assessment requirements of National Green Data Centers; optimizes key energy consumption indicators of data centers; and continues to expand research in energy-saving technologies for the data center's power transmission and distribution system, cooling system, IT equipment power consumption, resource pool virtualization, and more.

· Power transmission and distribution system: The data center adopts an advanced modular uninterrupted power supply system to improve power supply efficiency and reduce power loss;

· Cooling system: GDS integrates AI technology into the BA system to achieve precise energy utilization through digitalized channels;

· Wastewater treatment: GDS has upgraded the existing water treatment system of the data center, enabling real-time flow control, automatic sewage discharge switches, and automatic adjustment of chemical dosing;

· Waste heat recovery: The data center also incorporates waste heat recovery design, where all the heat energy for winter heating is obtained through the recovery of excess heat from the data center, thus achieving energy recycling.

GDS’s smart and innovative cloud computing data center has continuously optimized various key indicators of energy efficiency owing to intelligent and refined data center design and operational management practices. Currently, the data center's annual average power usage effectiveness (PUE) has been reduced to below 1.23, which is 0.07 lower than the design value, and is equivalent to an annual energy saving of 2.5 million kWh. The GDS Langfang cluster is gradually becoming a benchmark for efficient, intelligent, and green data center clusters in North China region.

GDS has always considered sustainability as one of its important development strategies. In 2021, the company achieved a record PUE of 1.17 among its self-built data centers, with the proportion of renewable energy increasing to 34.3%. Key indicators such as carbon emissions intensity and water usage effectiveness (WUE) have also been simultaneously optimized. GDS is committed to using 100% renewable energy usage and achieving carbon neutrality, continuously enhancing the "green" attributes of its data centers, and injecting more energy into industry and the sustainable development of the digital economy.
